Officials said solar power and hydrogen energy are expected to eventually account, respectively, for 7 percent and 3 percent of the airport’s 200 gigawatt-hours of annual electricity consumption.Raising energy-production capabilities is also intended to make the airport more self-sufficient in the event of a natural disaster.The airport already has one solar power plant that is adjacent to its second runway. New Kansai International Airport also plans to install a new one near the first runway and start full-scale operation there within the year.It is in talks with other entities to install a hydrogen power plant with an output of around 1 megawatt in fiscal 2016.
